Nick Cannon to host Style's 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous' reboot

By Jethro Nededog

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Move over Robin Leach, Nick Cannon is hosting Style's reboot of 80s show "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."

Set to go into production in the fall, the network plans a modern take on the series that documents the lavish spending of the 10 percent.

"To be a part of Style's re-imagination of this iconic show and follow in the footsteps of the legendary Robin Leach is a dream come true," said Cannon, who already hosts NBC's "America's Got Talent" and MTV2's "Wild N' Out."

"Even though I am fortunate to have certain luxuries, sometimes, I am even amazed by what people with money have and do," he continued. "I want to remind people that just because you might be rich and famous, it doesn't mean you have to take yourself too seriously."

Additionally Cannon will executive produce through his company, NCredible Entertainment, alongside Relativity Television, Television 360 and Rysher Entertainment.

"Nick is both inspirational and accessible - key qualities of the Style brand. He is extremely talented with a grounded personality and style that a wide range of viewers have come to appreciate and respect. Nick's comedic and down-to-earth perspective on the opulence of the wealthy makes him the ideal host as we reinvent this pop culture classic," said Style Media president Salaam Coleman Smith.

"With Nick's humorous insight, Style will give viewers front-row access to how today's wealthy live, paying homage to the original ?Lifestyles' in a fresh, fun and irreverent way," she continued.

Style aims to revamp the series for today with a focus on "dot com money, hip hop fame, one-hit wonders and of course, old money glitz." Meanwhile, Cannon will introduce viewers to the entrepreneurs behind the bling and lend his comedic take to the narration.

In April, Style announced several projects in development including unscripted series with Jack Osbourne as executive producer and one starring model Selita Ebanks.

Kentucky college lands $250M gift, among biggest ever

By Bruce Schreiner, Associated Press

A tiny liberal arts school in rural Kentucky that hosted vice presidential debates in 2000 and 2012 announced a $250 million donation Tuesday, one of the largest single gifts in higher education history.

The all-stock donation to Centre College from the A. Eugene Brockman Charitable Trust ranks among the 20 biggest gifts ever to a U.S. college or university, according to a list maintained by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

It is the second-largest such gift to a U.S. school since 2011, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, surpassed only by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's $350 million donation to Johns Hopkins University announced earlier this year.

Centre will use the money to set up scholarships for students majoring in science, economics and computer science. Centre College President John A. Roush said the gift, which comes in the form of stock in Universal Computer Systems Holding Inc., represents a "fundamental transformation" in the school's ability to support students demonstrating leadership potential.

"The problems and the opportunities confronting our nation and world are increasingly complex, and the Brockman Scholars Program will empower talented young women and men with the knowledge, creativity and integrity necessary to address them," Roush said.

Starting in fall 2014, 40 new Brockman Scholarships will be funded each year for students majoring in the natural and computational sciences and economics, with a total of 160 students receiving the full-ride scholarships plus more benefits by 2017, the school said. The merit-based scholarships will cover tuition, room and board, and fees ? which will cost $45,100 for the coming school year ? as well as money to support study abroad, summer research and internships.

Brockman formed the charitable trust in 1981. His son, Robert T. "Bob" Brockman, is a Centre graduate and a former chairman of the school's board of trustees.

Bob Brockman is also president and CEO of The Reynolds and Reynolds Co., an auto dealer services firm that merged with Universal Computer Systems in 2006.?

The elder Brockman "saw firsthand the tremendous impact that Centre had on his son ... whose own drive and ambition were empowered by his experience as a Centre student," said Evatt Tamine, trustee of the Brockman Trust.?

The leafy campus in Danville, a picturesque central Kentucky town of about 16,000, has found itself on the nation's political center stage twice, when it hosted vice presidential debates in 2000 pitting Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman and again in 2012 when Joe Biden and Paul Ryan squared off.

Centre expects enrollment of about 1,370 students for the fall semester. The school ranked 52nd nationally among liberal arts colleges in last year's ratings from U.S. News & World Report, but it ranked fifth in best undergraduate teaching and alumni giving.

A prior $19.5 million gift from the Brockman Trust went for construction of a dorm for upperclassmen that opened a year ago.

The latest gift comes amid the school's $500 million fundraising campaign leading up to Centre's bicentennial celebration in January 2019.

Second-quarter GDP to slow sharply on tax burden

By Lucia Mutikani

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Economic growth probably slowed sharply in the second quarter, but its pace is unlikely to change views that the Federal Reserve will start trimming bond purchases later this year.

Gross domestic product probably grew at a 1.0 percent annual rate after expanding at a 1.8 percent pace in the first quarter because government austerity and weak global demand weighed on the economy, according to a Reuters poll of economists. But there is a risk that growth undershoots expectations, with forecasts as low as a 0.4 percent rate.

If economists are right, it would mark a third straight quarter of GDP growth below 2 percent, a pace that normally would be too soft to bring down unemployment.

The slowdown is expected to be temporary, with an acceleration in output forecast for the rest of 2013 as the drag from higher taxes and deep budget cuts wanes.

The Commerce Department will release its advance report on second-quarter GDP at 8:30 a.m. EDT (1230 GMT) on Wednesday. The data will come as the Fed prepares to wrap up a two-day meeting, but economists do not expect the report to have much influence over how Fed officials think about the fate of the $85 billion per month bond-buying program.

"GDP tends to be backward looking," said Dan North, lead economist at Euler Hermes Americas in New York. "The Fed is looking more intensively at the labor market measures which have firmed quite a bit in the last three months, which is why there is an expectation that they will start tapering in September."

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has said the U.S. central bank expects to start cutting back the purchases later this year, and would likely bring them to a complete halt by the middle of 2014, if the economy progressed as it expected.

U.S. financial markets have already priced in a weak second-quarter GDP report. Attention will be on comprehensive revisions to GDP data, which among other changes now treat research and development spending as an investment.

BIGGER ECONOMY, HIGHER SAVINGS?

Other changes are the inclusion of more ownership transfer costs in investment and measuring defined benefit pension plans on an accrual basis rather than cash. Analysts say these changes will not only reveal a bigger economy and a higher rate of savings, but could help revise fiscal 2012 growth upward.

"It looks like these revisions will be modestly favorable for GDP growth on net," said Michael Feroli, an economist at JPMorgan in New York.

Economists said the revisions would probably narrow the gap between a relatively strong pace of job gains and weak growth.

The weak pace of second-quarter growth will reflect a sharp slowdown in consumer spending caused by higher taxes at the start of the year and an unwinding of utilities spending, which was boosted by unusually cold weather in the first three months of the year.

Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, is expected to slow to a less than 2 percent pace after accelerating at a 2.6 percent rate in the first quarter.

Sluggish domestic demand likely made businesses cautious about restocking warehouses. A marginal contribution to second-quarter GDP growth is expected from inventory accumulation after restocking added more than half a percentage point in the January-March period.

Business spending on equipment and software likely held steady, with investment in nonresidential structures rebounding from the first quarter's decline.

The housing market probably remained a bright spot during the second quarter. Spending on residential construction is expected to expand at a pace similar to the first quarter. Homebuilding added to growth last year for the first time since 2005 and its recovery should help ensure the economy continues to expand, albeit at a modest pace this year.

Exports are expected to have dragged down growth as demand weakened in Europe and China. Trade is expected to have subtracted more than half-a-percentage point from GDP growth in the second quarter.

Government spending is expected to have contracted for a third straight quarter, largely because of the across-the-board government spending cuts, known as the sequester, which have hit the defense sector.

Other details of the report are expected to show that sluggish domestic demand is keeping a lid on inflation pressures.

Deutsche Bank's legal woes weigh on second-quarter earnings

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Deutsche Bank AG (Xetra: 514000 - news) pledged to cut risky assets from its balance sheet in response to regulatory concerns, as quarterly profit missed expectations after a 630 million euro (544 million pounds) hike in litigation reserves.

Germany's flagship lender posted an 18 percent fall in second-quarter pretax profit to 792 million euros, well below the 1.3 billion forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll.

Its shares were indicated 2.5 percent lower in premarket trading.

"We expect settlements to accelerate in the coming quarters," Co-Chief Executive Anshu Jain said, referring to the bank's legal problems, but without elaborating on which legal issues were on track for being resolved.

The lender's quarterly earnings stands in sharp contrast to peers. So far this reporting season, investment banking rivals like Morgan Stanley (Xetra: 885836 - news) , Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS-PB - news) , JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE: JPM - news) , and Bank of America Corp have beat analysts' profit expectations, thanks largely to strength in trading and underwriting.

The Germany-based bank identified 250 billion euros worth of assets to cut in an effort to meet new bank safety rules. "We are committed to further reducing (the) balance sheet in a manner that enables us to meet requirements on (the) leverage ratio," Co-Chief Executive Juergen Fitschen said in a statement.

Around 3.3 billion euros worth of assets had already been reduced by changing the risk model on some of the assets in its Postbank unit.

Deutsche said it will seek to achieve a leverage ratio of 3 percent under more stringent bank safety rules after regulators questioned the bank's ability to absorb financial shocks in a possible future crisis.

Although the bank raised capital in April, one of the top U.S. regulators, Thomas Hoenig, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp vice chairman, last month called Deutsche Bank "horribly undercapitalized.

Hoenig said Deutsche Bank looked weak if you measured the bank's leverage ratio - which compares a bank's shareholder equity to its total assets without using risk weightings.

Since June 1, 2012 when Deutsche's new leadership took over, the bank's share price has risen 32 percent, but has lagged key peers and the STOXX Europe 600 banking sector , which has jumped 47 percent.

By contrast, Barclays (LSE: BARC.L - news) shares have risen 67 percent, JP Morgan (Other OTC: JPYYL - news) 63 percent and UBS (Berlin: UBRA.BE - news) 58 percent, Thomson Reuters data show. http://link.reuters.com/kag99t

WALNUT HILLS (FOX19) -

The University of Cincinnati's presidential suite overlooking the Ohio River and downtown Cincinnati is now for sale for $2.25 million, FOX19 has learned. A UC spokeswoman provided us with a link to the listing.

The university's new president, Dr. Santa Ono, had previously told FOX19 he has no use for the penthouse and wants to use proceeds from the sale for a new presidential scholarship.

"I'd much rather see 25 kids get a free education than me to have access to a nice condominium that I don't live in," Dr. Ono told us in April.

The move by Dr. Ono and the board of trustees to sell the condo follows a FOX19 investigation into the previous president's lifestyle, paid for with money from university donors and taxpayers. The condo, in the plush Edgecliff Point complex in Walnut Hills, has been on the market since June 17 following the last of the university's fundraisers that had been scheduled there and some maintenance that had to be done, according to UC spokeswoman M.B. Reilly.

Judging by other listings on Coldwell Banker West Shell's website, the 5,700 square foot condo with seven balconies and 360-degree views is within the price range of similar properties. It has three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and a marble foyer. Another penthouse on the same floor is on the market for nearly $2.5 million. Across the river in Covington, a similar condo in the Ascent Building has an asking price of about $2.5 million, too.

The Hamilton County Auditor's Office values the UC presidential suite at nearly $2.6 million. The condo was a gift in 2008 from Patti and Buck Niehoff, who support the sale.

Zimbabwe Prime Minister slams poll preparations

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) ? Zimbabwe's prime minister says he is deeply disturbed by chaotic preparations for make-or-break elections on July 31 despite the African Union's approval of the process.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said Friday that the "credibility of this election is at risk." He said the state election commission appeared not to be in control of final arrangements, voters' lists still have not been made available to candidates and registration of eligible voters on those lists has not been completed.

"This chaos will lead to inconclusive and contested results," Tsvangirai told a press conference.

Tsvangirai sharply criticized Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the South African chairperson of the African Union, for declaring in an earlier statement that he had raised no concerns with her.

Dlamini-Zuma said AU observers are "satisfied" with arrangements so far.

Did George Zimmerman Get Away With Murder?

    Juror B29

Robin Roberts interviews Juror B29, the only minority juror from the George Zimmerman trial, on an episode of "Good Morning America" that aired July 26, 2013.

Did George Zimmerman get away with murder? That?s what one of his jurors says, according to headlines in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and dozens of other newspapers. Trayvon Martin?s mother and the Martin family?s attorney are trumpeting this ?new information? as proof that ?George Zimmerman literally got away with murder.?

The reports are based on an ABC News interview with Juror B29, the sole nonwhite juror. She has identified herself only by her first name, Maddy. She?s been framed as the woman who was bullied out of voting to convict Zimmerman. But that?s not true. She stands by the verdict. She yielded to the evidence and the law, not to bullying. She thinks Zimmerman was morally culpable but not legally guilty. And she wants us to distinguish between this trial and larger questions of race and justice.

ABC News hasn?t posted a full unedited video or transcript of the interview. The video that has been broadcast?on World News Tonight, Nightline, and Good Morning America?has been cut and spliced in different ways, often so artfully that the transitions appear continuous. So beware what you?re seeing. But the video that?s available already shows, on closer inspection, that Maddy has been manipulated and misrepresented. Here are the key points.

    1. The phrase ?got away with murder? was put in her mouth. Nightline shows ABC interviewer Robin Roberts asking Maddy: ?Some people have said, ?George Zimmerman got away with murder. How do you respond to those people who say that?? ? Maddy appears to reply promptly and confidently: ?George Zimmerman got away with murder. But you can?t get away from God.? But that?s not quite how the exchange happened. In the unedited video, Roberts? question is longer, with words that have been trimmed from the Nightline version, and Maddy pauses twice, for several seconds, as she struggles to answer it. ?? George Zimmerman ? That?s?George Zimmerman got away with murder. But you can?t get away from God.? You have to watch her, not just read her words, to pick up her meaning. As she struggles to answer, she looks as though she?s trying to reconcile the sentiment that?s been quoted to her?that Zimmerman ?got away with murder??with her own perspective. So she repeats the quote and adds words of her own, to convey what she thinks: that there?s a justice higher than the law, which Zimmerman will have to face. She thinks he?s morally culpable, not legally guilty.

    2. She stands by the verdict. ABC?s online story about the interview ends with Maddy asking, ?Did I go the right way? Did I go the wrong way?? But that?s not the whole quote. In the unedited video, Maddy continues: ?I know I went the right way, because by the law and the way it was followed is the way I went. But if I would have used my heart, I probably would have [gone for] a hung jury.? In another clip, she draws the same distinction: ?I stand by the decision because of the law. If I stand by the decision because of my heart, he would have been guilty.? At one point, she says that ?the evidence shows he?s guilty.? Roberts presses her: ?He?s guilty of?? Maddy answers: ?Killing Trayvon Martin. But as the law was read to me, if you have no proof that he killed him intentionally, you can?t say he?s guilty.? That?s the distinction she?s trying to draw here: Killing is one thing. Murder or manslaughter is another.

    3. She thinks the case should never have gone to trial. According to ABC News, when Roberts asked ?whether the case should have gone to trial,? Maddy answered, "I don't think so. ? I felt like this was a publicity stunt.?

7 killed in Florida apartment building shooting

Seven people were killed, including the gunman, in an overnight shooting at a South Florida apartment building, authorities said.

Hialeah police Sgt. Eddie Rodriguez told Fox News that the gunman was shot dead by a SWAT team member following a standoff.

During the hours-long standoff, the gunman held two hostages, who were unharmed. At least four victims were found dead inside the building, Rodriguez said early Saturday.

At least one victim, a male, was found dead across the street from the building. It was unclear if the victim was purposely targeted or if he was hit by a stray bullet, according to Rodriguez.

WSVN.com reported that the manager of the West 46th Street apartment building and his wife were among the victims. Police did not identify the gunman or the victims early Saturday.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, Rodriguez said.

Aligarh Muslim University withdraws dress code diktat for hostel girls

LUCKNOW: Facing flak over its order to girl students to wear only "salwar kameez" along with a "dupatta" on the varsity campus, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration on Saturday withdrew it.

A senior official said that the move was aimed at ensuring discipline on the campus and hostels but had been taken back "after society raised objections".

The administration had earlier this week posted notices at its girls hostel ordering them to wear only "salwaar kameez", which is "proper, decent-looking and appropriate dress".

The order, signed by the provost of Abdullah Hall for Girls, had also come with a warning that if the hostel inmates were found breaching the rule, they would have to cough up a fine of Rs 500.

The girls were also barred from keeping more than one mobile phone.

The girls, unlike boys, are not entitled to Sunday excursions out of the campus, as it is felt it could "vitiate the moral standards and norms of a decent society", a professor said.

Earlier in June, in another controversial order, AMU's vice-chancellor Lt. Gen. (retd) Zameeruddin Shah had, in an open letter, instructed male students to wear "sherwanis" if they wanted to meet him.

AMU is a public university, funded by the central government and a seat of quality education for millions ever since educationist Sir Syed Ahmed Khan founded it in 1875.

Michigan court halts challenges to Detroit bankruptcy filing

    Economy

The legal battle over Detroit?s historic bankruptcy filing took another twist Tuesday when Michigan?s appeals court halted all ongoing challenges to the constitutionality of the bankruptcy filing pending in state court.

The panel acted after Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette asked the appeals court to quickly overturn the lower court rulings to halt the filing.

Detroit city workers, retirees and pension funds filed lawsuits in state court, concerned that the July 18 Chapter 9 bankruptcy filing by Detroit's state-appointed emergency manager will lead to retirement benefit cuts.

The appellate court asked for additional briefs before deciding their next step, according to Morgan Cole, a law clerk for Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, who has scheduled a Monday hearing on those challenges.

Aquilina issued a declaratory judgment Friday ordering Kevyn Orr, Detroit's emergency manager, to withdraw the bankruptcy petition on state constitutional grounds.

?(Tuesday?s order) stops the state proceeding until (the appellate court) makes a decision whether to send it back to trial court, whether they?re going to keep it or whether they?re going to send it up to the Supreme Court of Michigan,? said Cole.

The main event in the legal challenge comes Wednesday morning, when a federal bankruptcy court judge in Michigan is expected to rule on whether U.S. law trumps the state?s constitutional protection against rescinding retired city workers? pensions. Bond holders who have relied for centuries on a government?s ?full faith and credit? to repay their investments will also be there to argue their case.

Appearing Wednesday before U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Steven Rhodes, opponents of the bankruptcy filing will argue that the question is solely a state matter, placing it outside the reach of federal courts, a doctrine known as ?independent and adequate state grounds,? according to Cole.

?Generally, federal courts will deny discretion to review an issue it if it rests solely on state grounds,? she said.

But bankruptcy law experts say federal courts are empowered to interpret state constitutional issues. If Rhodes rules Wednesday that the filing is legal, that would end all challenges in state court.

Regardless of tomorrow?s ruling, bankruptcy law experts say, the case could involve multiple appeals to both state and federal courts ? with little legal precedent to shape the outcome. Most of the several hundred cases that have been filed since the modern Chapter 9 code was amended in 1978 involve small municipal entities like water or sewer districts.

    Reuters contributed to this report.

Daimler profits jump on EADS stake sale

(AP) ? Automaker Daimler AG is reporting a big jump in net profit in the second quarter thanks to gains from selling its stake in aerospace firm EADS.

The company said Wednesday that net profit rose to ?4.58 billion ($6.04 billion) from ?1.56 billion in the same quarter a year before. Sales rose 3 percent to ?29.7 billion.

The maker of luxury brand Mercedes saw a gain of ?3.2 billion from disposing of its remaining stake in EADS, parent company of plane maker Airbus. Daimler made the move to concentrate better on its core auto business.

The flagship Mercedes-Benz Cars division, which also includes the Smart compact, saw operating earnings slip however due to a less profitable model mix and expenses for new technologies and vehicles.

(AP) ? On his first swing back from a knee injury, Bryce Harper hit a curtain-call home run.

    Welcome back, slugger.

"Typical Bryce right there, he's all about the drama," teammate Jayson Werth said. "He didn't disappoint us, I guess."

Harper's first-inning solo shot Monday night was the sparkplug for the Washington Nationals in a 10-5 pounding of the slumping Milwaukee Brewers.

It was the 20-year-old Harper's only hit of the night, but the domino effect was real. Werth, unhappily bumped to second in the lineup because of Harper's return, got five RBIs. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman was an unexpected offensive juggernaut with a team-high three hits, including a double to start a five-run third inning and a single to open a two-run fourth.

Put it all together and the Nationals had their second runaway win in as many days. After toying with .500 for the entire month of June, Washington moved two games above the break-even mark for the first time since late May.

"It's kind of contagious. Everybody knows we've got some work to do," Washington manager Davey Johnson said. "Let's get down to business. Let's get serious."

Harper missed 31 games with bursitis in his left knee ? the most lingering fallout from his collision with the Dodger Stadium wall ? and was activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game. Batting third and playing left field, he launched the second pitch he saw, a fastball from Yovani Gallardo (6-8), into the visitors' bullpen beyond left field for an opposite-field homer.

Harper raised his right arm and pointed to the fans as he finished his familiar sprint around the bases. After lots of high-fives in the dugout, he returned to the top of the steps and gave a thumbs-up curtain call.

"I felt like I was back on opening day," said Harper, who homered in his first two at-bats of the season. "I was trying to get something I could drive. I got a pitch I could handle a little bit and put it where I wanted to."

The solo shot was Harper's 13th homer of the season and 24th RBI. He hurt his knee in the mishap in Los Angeles on May 13 and reinjured it several times over the following two weeks before going on the disabled list. He went 4 for 11 in minor league rehab games last week.

He finished 1 for 4 with a walk on Monday. He slid hard into second base on a double play in the sixth inning, showing no signs of being gimpy in his knee.

The Nationals improved to 26-19 when Harper plays; they are 16-21 when he doesn't. He and the teammates made life easy for Zimmermann (12-3), who had an 8-0 lead at one point and pitched six innings. He allowed four runs and tied unbeaten Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers for the major league lead in wins.

Zimmermann said his night at the plate was better than his night on the mound. He joked about the size of his bat, initially claiming it was 39 inches instead of 34.

"I pitch all right," Zimmerman said. "But definitely three hits is awesome."

Werth's mood, by contrast, was nowhere near jovial, especially for a player with his best RBI game since 2009. He kept reporters waiting for nearly an hour after the game and proclaimed himself "just a grunt out here playing ball."

"I don't necessarily like hitting second," Werth said. "But if that's the best for our team, I've said it before: Last year when I led off, it wasn't personally the best fit for me, but it was the best for our team and that's why I felt like it should have happened. And the same goes for me hitting second now."

The Nationals, perhaps finally finding their stride after a middling first half of the season, have won five of seven to pull within six games of the first-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East. Washington scored a season-high 13 runs on Sunday against the New York Mets.

Meanwhile, the Brewers, missing injured slugger Ryan Braun, have lost six straight and are 32-49 at the midpoint of their season.

Gallardo struggled for the second straight start. With the Brewers' bullpen spent after Sunday's 14-inning loss to Pittsburgh, the right-hander was left to fend for himself until he was pulled in the fourth inning. He allowed eight runs, and his ERA rose from 4.20 to 4.78.

"You don't expect to see it from Yovani because he's been so consistent through his career, but he's at a point right now where for some reason he's deep in counts to almost every batter," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "We're 3-2 and he's having to make a great pitch, and you can't survive if you keep doing that."

NOTES: Johnson said LHP Ross Detwiler had a good bullpen session and is on pace to start Wednesday as scheduled. Detwiler had stiffness in his lower back after his last start. ... The Nationals optioned RHP Erik Davis to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for Harper. ... Brewers RHP Kyle Lohse will make his next start Wednesday on two days rest. Lohse started Sunday, but he went only 1 2-3 innings before a 2-hour rain delay.

Google Reader Data Will Be Permanently Deleted on July 15th

You'd have to be in serious denial not to know that Google Reader is officially dead as of this morning. But there has been a certain ambiguity about how long your data would be available after the rapture. No longer. July 15th is the end.

In a post overnight, Google was totally clear about the final doomsday:

You can download a copy of your Google Reader data via Google Takeout until 12PM PST July 15, 2013

That's it! Final! Download your data right now!

    How does this work?

    • When you head over to Google Takeout, you'll have to instruct Google to prepare your data into a package.
    • When its ready (it shouldn't take long), you'll get an email.
    • You'll notice that the file you download from Google Takeout is a .zip archive with many files inside. The "OPML" file containing all of your subscription data is the one called (duh) "subscriptions.xml".
    • Import that file into the reader of your choice and you'll be all set.

Do you need a recommendation? Try one of these. [Google]

Ky secretary of state to challenge Mitch McConnell

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) ? Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes says she will run against Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, ending the search by Democrats to find a competitive challenger ahead of next year's election.

Grimes announced her decision Monday afternoon in Frankfort.

Touted as the Democrats' best hope of unseating McConnell in next year's election, Grimes had been considering the race since actress Ashley Judd opted out in March.

Former Democratic Party Chairman Bill Garmer and Kentucky environmental attorney Tom FitzGerald had said they would consider the race if Grimes had declined. Three longshot Democrats have declared their intentions to run.

Defeating McConnell would be the Democrats' biggest prize of the 2014 election. His seat is one of 14 that Republicans are defending, while Democrats try to hold onto 21.

Vodafone launches a 4G mobile hotspot, suffers from premature dispensation

Camping outside a store for weeks on end has been done to death now, so what can you do to score some early adopter cred? How about buying a device to use on a service that doesn't exist... yet? That's Vodafone's thinking behind launching its first 4G wireless hotspot, two months before its LTE service begins rolling out. The Vodafone R212 will connect up to 10 devices simultaneously, comes with a 32GB SD card reader, a 2,800mAh battery and will, thankfully, connect to the company's 3G network as well. It'll set you back £39 up-front if you sign up for a plan offering you 1GB of monthly data for £10 a month.
