UK-based property portfolio Crown Estate has announced that three organizations have secured the requisite rights move ahead with the development of tidal energy projects across the country.
The tidal energy projects have been awarded corresponding to the fourth application window in the Crown Estate's leasing process for the projects associated with the Scottish government's Saltire Prize and demonstration projects.
The Isle of Wight Council secured an Agreement for Lease for Solent Ocean Energy Centre, located off the south of the Isle of Wight while the Scotrenewables Tidal Power has secured an Agreement for Lease to develop a 30MW tidal stream array at Lashy Sound.
Swedish technology developer Minesto also secured a lease to deploy a 3KW prototype of its Deep Green Ocean Kite in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland.
Commenting on the developments Crown Estate Wave and Tidal development manager Paul Catterall remarked that the firm will support growth of the emerging industry and will be announcing next steps in leasing wave and tidal sites in due course.
