A look at eurozone unemployment rates (AP)

Eurostat, the EU's statistics office, estimates that unemployment across the 17-nation eurozone rose by the end of 2011 to 10.4 percent, a joint record high since the euro launched in 1999.

Here's how the countries compare:

Spain 22.9 percent

Greece 19.2 percent

Ireland 14.5 percent

Portugal 13.6 percent

Slovakia 13.4 percent

Estonia 11.3 percent

France 9.9 percent

Cyprus 9.3 percent

Italy 8.9 percent

Slovenia 8.2 percent

Finland 7.6 percent

Belgium 7.2 percent

Malta 6.5 percent

Germany 5.5 percent

Luxembourg 5.2 percent

Netherlands 4.9 percent

Austria 4.1 percent
