Colorado State University - Pueblo announces Kane Scholar selection timeline

PUEBLO ? Colorado State University ? Pueblo Foundation has announced the process by which seven, four-year tuition and book scholarships at Colorado State University-Pueblo will be distributed for the 2013-2014 school year.

Pueblo County students are selected based on their high school academic record and their demonstration of high motivation and potential for continued academic success. To apply for the Kane Scholarship and all CSU-Pueblo Foundation scholarships, applicants must complete the CSU-Pueblo Scholarship Application. Kane Scholarship applicants will be judged on their scholarship application, essay, resume, and high school transcript. Only students graduating from Pueblo County high schools are eligible to apply for the CSU-Pueblo Kane Scholarship. The seven scholarships will be awarded to the students with the highest potential from across Pueblo County and not awarded to a certain number of students at each Pueblo County high school. The scholarship application will open on Jan. 1 and is due March 1. The CSU-Pueblo Scholarship application can be found at www.colostate-pueblo.edu/sfs/scholarships.

Once the seven Kane Scholarship candidates are selected, students will be invited for a first-round interview on March 11 at the close of Discover CSU-Pueblo Day on the CSU-Pueblo campus. Discover Day CSU-Pueblo Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on March 11 in the Occhiato University Center. Finalists from each high school then will be invited to a final interview at CSU-Pueblo. The 2012 Kane Scholars will be announced at the end of March.

During their lifetimes, the Kane Family helped many young people with the financing of their education and also contributed to research related to drug and alcohol addiction. Alexander Kane, a Fountain, Colo native, died June 3, 2003, and Wanden Kane, a two-time mayor of Fountain, Colo passed Feb. 3, 1991. The couple ran the Kane Ranch near Williams Creek, Colo. Before his death, Alexander Kane established the Kane Family Foundation and directed the Foundation to provide funds for tuition and books for eligible students. As CSU-Pueblo Kane Scholars, students will receive free tuition, books, and mandatory course fees toward pursuit of a bachelor?s degree for up to eight semesters.
